I was highly motivated to get on the road today. I finished packing (had to run to BiMart to get a few more things of course) and finally got out a little after noon. It was pouring!
During the drive I finished listening to The Obstacle Is the Way: The Timeless Art of Turning Trials into Triumph. It’s an exploration of stoicism, a kind of applied philosophy. Well written. I’d like to learn more about it. The author cites Robert Greene as one of his mentors (The 48 Laws of Power). The interview at the end with Tim Ferris is great and packed with lots of useful information. This is one of those books that’s timely no matter when you read it. It just seems like a better way to engage life.
The rest of the drive was fairly uneventful. I did take a portion of the scenic route through the gorge and got this very rainy picture of Crown Point.
Stopped in The Dalles for fuel and an early supper. Ate at a very nice Mexican restaurant, Ixtapa, and ordered their Carna con Chili. Waaaay, hotter than I expected, but it was good. The rest of the drive was pretty uneventful, but the sunset was pretty. I took this one near Athena just before getting into Milton-Freewater.
At my mom’s house, after a bit of drama with Peewee, I gave my mom her Mother’s Day present; an iPad mini. It’s going to be interesting. I set her up with Facebook and an Amazon account so she can get Kindle books. She’s a little intimidated but seems to be motivated. She’ll figure it out.
I’m hoping to get back on the road today and make it to at least Boise. We’ll see.
