Burns – Steens Mountain Loop

Here are some highlights from the “standard loop” around Steens Mountain. This is one of the best places to visit in eastern Oregon. It makes a good long weekend. You can do the highlights in three days, but you’ll enjoy it more if you take at least four.

Expect this page to be tweaked and updated over time. I’ll also link to other posts with more detailed descriptions and picture. It turns out that there’s a lot to describe in this area.

Burns is the first place you land if you’re heading for Steens Mountain country. It’s a small town that used to have a very large lumber mill. Good hotels and good restaurants can be found here.
