Oxford Friday 2013.08.23

My original intention for the day was to do less sightseeing and a bit more reading. It didn’t completely work that way, but it was a bit slower nonetheless. The morning was spent blogging and a trip to the grocery store then in the afternoon I made my way to the Radcliffe Science Library.

The library is a place for quiet study. It has good connectivity and good facilities. I did request one book, which may arrive next week sometime. Other than that most of what I found I could have found anywhere on the planet. I’ve always wanted to spend more time digging into systems theory and spent a little time surveying the topic. A particularly good find is Thinking in Systems: A Primer by Donella H. Meadows. A classic, which I have buried in my library somewhere. This book provides a great and very approachable primer on systems theory. For me it’s a very enjoyable read.

Eventually I started to get hungry and decided to track down a coffee shop. The library is next to the Natural History and Pitt Rivers museums. I didn’t really like the gallery shot of the Pitt Rivers museum that I took the other day so I decided to go retake it. There, of course, began the slippery slop of taking more pictures. A few are shown at the end of this post.

Following the coffee shop I decided to check out Magdalen College. It cost 5 pounds to get in, which seemed a bit excessive, but it was worth it. Lots of interesting old buildings and gorgeous grounds with a deer park in the middle.

For dinner I ate at Mario’s Pizza. Recommended by my friends at Kazbar and claimed to be the best pizza on Cowley Road. It was packed and the pizza was very good.
